The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai, has deployed the special teams of the Nigerian Army to Benue, Taraba and Nasarawa states to check further loss of lives.

Buratai, who disclosed this yesterday in Abuja during the distribution of farm implements by the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Chief Audu Ogbeh, at the military ranch in Giri, pledged that the military would restore peace and order in the affected states, adding that it would be easier to develop the agricultural sector and boost the nation’s economy in a peaceful environment.

His words: “We are asking our Special Forces Brigade to ensure that they are deployed across the county at short notice to ensure they stem the crisis between herdsmen and farmers.

“We have deployed officers across Benue, Taraba and Nasarawa states where to ensure peace and stability for the development and betterment of our country.”

He disclosed that the military had secured 436 hectares of land in Nasarawa State for agriculture purposes, stressing that once the nation achieves food security, criminal activities, including insurgency, would reduce drastically.

The army chief, who said the idea of ranches in military formations came to him while on a course in Bangladesh, stated that soldiers nationwide now engage in various forms of agricultural activities, including poultry and horticulture.
